Apple video recorder. So I probably should have mentioned that I have an IO Gear GCS632U KVM that has never given me issues before today. Turns out that that when I hook up the keyboard to the machine directly all the multimedia keys work (without drivers mind you) but as soon as I hook the keyboard back to the KVM all the special keys stop working.
If your keyboard works when your Mac is started in macOS but not Windows, try reinstalling Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant. Learn more Use Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator to find the key combinations for unique characters in the language and region your Apple keyboard. I have the Dell model RT7D30 keyboard but I do not have the driver CD-ROM. I want the hot keys to work. I am having difficulty locating the correct/functioning driver online.
I need to get a better kvm anyway. This one only has an old d-sub vga connector and I want to upgrade to DVI. Thanks for your help anyway, I've posted this here just in case someone else runs into the same issue. Thought I'd share in case someone else searches and lands here. The extra buttons on my Dell KB522 multimedia keyboard quit working after the machine was upgraded to Windows 10, so I searched for the driver. Dell site was such a disappointment.%uFEFFTried Motzilla's solution of plugging directly to the laptop (Dell Latitude E6440) and the extra keys worked immediately.
OK, so the work around was to unplug and plug it directly to the laptop every time. Then it started randomly not working, I'd have to plug in 2-3 times before it worked, if at all. Tried back on the dock - nothing. Tried back again on a different USB port on the laptop, and a window saying the driver was being installed popped up with a progress bar, then it was gone. Keys were working again. I figured now that a driver was installed it might work in any USB port including the dock, so I unplugged from the laptop, plugged on the dock, and it's been working so far.
We'll see tomorrow after a shutdown for the night.
